Paul Turner MChS MHPC MSMA MISRM
Director
Paul is a director of the Oxford School of Sports Massage. He is an experienced sports massage and sports therapy lecturer. He worked exclusively in professional football between 1994 and 2001, after which he lectured in sports massage and sports therapy as a Programme Manager for Premier Training International.
Paul is also a qualified podiatrist specialising in gait and posture.
Carl Major Cert Ed MISRM
Carl is one of our principal tutors. He qualified as a personal trainer and sports massage practitioner in 2003 before gaining his Professional Diploma in Sports and Remedial Massage in 2005. He runs a busy practice located in north Oxford – he has worked with professional athletes as well as members of the general public, receiving regular referrals from a local physiotherapist, GP and consultant rheumatologist.
Carl is also a qualified teacher and assessor and runs his own CPD courses in advanced massage techniques. www.equilibrium-uk.com
Liz Soames MSMA MISRM
Liz is one of our principal tutors. She began her career studying Exercise Science, focusing on behavioural change and exercise adherence. She went on to work freelance as an exercise specialist combining the more remedial aspect of exercise with soft tissue therapy, working with both amateur and semi-professional sportsmen.
She began lecturing in sports massage therapy and exercise in 2002 with Premier Training and went on to develop an interest and aptitute for soft tissue therapy in performance sport. She is now a soft tissue and musculoskeletal therapist and works with elite athletes in high performance sport across the UK. To date this has taken her to various international sporting events including the Paralympic Games in Beijing, the World Youth Games in Italy, the European Junior Championships in Serbia and the UKA high altitude training camp in Kenya.
Liz also runs her own clinic - Workingbodies - based in Towcester www.workingbodies.co.uk, so is able to combine her passion for sport and teaching with continued hands-on work helping clients achieve their goals in health and wellbeing.
Rick Weatherall BSc (Hons) Ost MSMA
Rick trained with the LSSM in 1997 as a sports massage practitioner. Following this he went on to study osteopathy at Oxford Brookes University and graduated in 2003. Rick is an experienced sports massage practitioner and runs a busy osteopathy and sports massage practice in Reading. As a senior tutor at the Oxford School of Sports Massage Rick lectures on both the theoretical and practical elements of the course.
Before his career in sports massage therapy and osteopathy, Rick was a squash coaching professional. He won 11 Berskhire men's championships and is the current over 35 Berkshire champion. Rick had wins over some of the best players in the world through his 14 year career and regularly trained with the top Australian players, many of whom were to become World and British Open champions. Rick has helped many top players with their games, and even today regularly practices with men and women ranked in the world's top 20.
Simon Rea MSc BSc
Simon holds a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology. He is an experienced physiology lecturer and lectures for the Open University. He will be covering the Exercise Physiology, Nutrition and Psychology modules of the Diploma.
Jason Anderson
Jason has dedicated his life to exercise development, with over 20 years of experience in the gym. He spent 5 years working for Premier Training International as Programme Manager for the Fitness Trainer Award & Advanced Personal Training qualifications. He has worked alongside osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists and many other soft tissue therapists and conditioning specialists from all over the world in the development of his unique training style. He is the inspiration behind Premier’s Personal Training Solutions department and the designer of their revolutionary WEB and flexibility training systems. Jason presents his concepts and principles at the top fitness conventions in the country (Fitpro and Multitrax UK) and at numerous club chains around the world. He is also a fitness expert, exercise model and regular contributor to Men's Fitness and other industry publications. Jason specialises in postural correction, movement dysfunction, joint and back pain, injury rehabilitation and performance conditioning.www.gim-uk.com
Elena Ward MOst, MSMA
Elena is an experienced sports massage practitioner and is also a registered Osteopath. She trained in sports massage at St Mary's College in Twickenham and has worked with a variety of sports and non-sports people throughout her career. Elena gained her masters degree in osteopathy from Oxford Brookes University in a multi-professional setting, studying for 4 years alongside other healthcare professionals, including physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
Elena's clinics are based in Headington and Kidlington in Oxfordshire and she also travels to London to give biomechanical assessments for cyclists and triathletes. She travels nationally and to Europe working with a company called The Tri Touch (http://www.thetritouch.co.uk/) at sporting events, providing sports massage and injury assessment to participants.
Elena is active herself as a keen amateur runner and kayaker and also swims and cycles. In 2008 she qualified as a PADI Divemaster, which is a professional level of recreational scuba diving. www.movesportsbodycare.co.uk
Mike Grice BA Hons, Cert Ed, MSMA
Mike has been involved in the health and fitness industry for the last 15 years and now runs his own HSE accredited centre for First Aid and is an STA accredited tutor for rugby first aid, lifeguard and spinal rescue training. Mike trained as a Sports Massage Therapist with Pulse Training in 2007 and is now studying Osteopathy at Keele University.
Mike is a qualified teacher and has taught Level 1 health and fitness programmes to Level 6 biomechanics diplomas. Mike was a National Trainer for LA Fitness and has been delivering first aid training for over 10 years in a sports and health and fitness setting.
